About Alex Lorieau
Born in 1987 in Edmonton, Alberta, and now based in Montreal, QC, Alex Lorieau is a versatile artist whose creative journey spans across multiple mediums and influences. A graduate of MacEwan University with a background in Design, Alex has been honing his artistic skills since early childhood, with a particular passion for exploring the world of visual arts.
Starting with his first ever art class ‘Super Hero Drawings,’ Alex’s journey began with fugaritive drawings at age 9. Later years were shaped by the vibrant world of street & urban graffiti art, Alex's evolving style now reflects a blend of bold expressionism and classical techniques. He then immersed himself in oil and acrylic painting, developing a distinctive approach that merges fine art traditions with contemporary sensibilities. His work is known for dynamic landscapes, intimate portraits, and engaging visual narratives.
One of Alex’s signature series, Wine Series, brings a pop art twist to fine wine culture. In these pieces, he paints characters enjoying wine by incorporating real wine labels from bottles he’s collected—carefully peeling and adhering them to the canvas as a tactile connection to the subject matter. This series showcases Alex’s unique ability to merge a passion with art in a playful yet sophisticated way.
Throughout his career, Alex has participated in numerous exhibitions, including recently at Lepicurien.Vin and Clinique Evolution in Montréal. His work has also earned awards and recognitions through several art competitions.
Outside the studio, Alex is an avid cook, fitness enthusiast, reader, and pianist. His broad range of interests, especially his deep appreciation for diverse musical genres and culinary traditions, continually fuels his creativity. An open-minded approach to life and art has led him to countless discoveries, influencing both his artistic practice and the life he leads.
